The Spring Eagle Festival
Day Tour

The Spring Eagle Festival is held annually at the Chingisiin Khuree tourist camp in the first of March.
As Mongolia is one of the few remaining countries that continue to keep the 6000-year-old tradition of eagle hunting, the festival is organized twice a year, with one taking place in Ulaanbaatar in spring and the other in Bayan-Ulgii province in fall.
The opening ceremony of the festival features an epic parade of eagle hunters on horses, dressed in traditional outfits, carrying each of their eagles on their shoulders. The first competition to showcase eagle & its owners skills takes place. The participants (on horses) are given a certain amount of time in which they have to call their eagles which are at the top of the mountain. The quicker the eagle recognizes and lands on its owner's arm, the more points given to them.
Those who succeed advances to the final round of the competition, where the hunting skills of the eagles are shown. This time, the owners mount their horses and drag a stuffed animal (usually foxes) while the eagles at the top of the mountain are supposed to hunt. One can learn hips of Kazakh tradition and culture at the festival
